Gerard Gray is a woodturner and carpenter located in the seaside town of Ballycastle. He takes inspiration from the local landscape, particularly fallen trees.
He creates his quality wood turned pieces in his workshop and can often be found at local artisan markets.
Gerard has presented his work to the Queen and was fortunate to get his hands on the fallen Armada tree, a Spanish Sweet Chestnut tree which had stood close to the St Patrick’s Church of Ireland in Cairncastle since the 1600’s.
The perfect fit was when Gerard was inspired by Colin Urwin‘s recitation of “The Spanish Armada Tree“.
He could now make something memorable using the timber from the fallen tree itself.
